The New Stillness - home-grown, (De Nieuw Verstilling - van eigen bodem) is a program of exclusively works by contemporary composers who live and/or work in the Netherlands. The overarching theme is that of reflection, stillness, and the experience of the child in the world. With the intensification of our experience of the world: performance pressure, traffic, war, economic distrust, housing pressure, social media, fake news, world news, and so on, we increasingly yearn for calm and meaningfulness. How far removed are we from our childhood? How do children experience this fast-paced world? All pieces of this program are directly and indirectly related to these issues.
The New Stillness is not a series of composition commissions. It is a collection of recent Dutch and Belgian works that deserve a second, third, and even more chances to be included in the permanent choir repertoire. It is a mirror of our times, which reflects the reflection, calm, and even sadness of our world in the here and now. However, it is above all a program of hope and optimism - our talent, from our own soil.
